Plot: Alex and Penny are sick of the hectic city life and decide a move out to the country to raise their newborn child. But they don't expect the horrors threatening their relationship and family. Full summary » |  »

Story: Haunted house film about a pair of sleep deprived parents who begin to experience disturbing visions after moving from the city to a country estate. Alex and Penny have just become parents of a baby boy when they decide that the city is no place to raise a child. Relocating to a farmhouse, the couple finds their relationship deteriorating due to the demands of caring for a newborn, including a lack of sleep. When Alex and Penny begin seeing a mysterious woman around the house, they at first dismiss the sightings as hallucinations brought on by sleep deprivation. But as the visions appear more often, the parents are forced to consider that evils are at work in their home. To be honest, I actually thought this movie would be one of thosecrappy ones. You know how the movie posters are these days. They don'tportray a single bit from the movie. Just total crap. But anyway, theposter for this movie didn't say much but still I was willing tosacrifice my time and my eyesight to Streaming it. Just because. Like Isaid, it's actually pretty decent. The plot is there. You can connectthe dots. The actor did a pretty good job. They are some scary bits butnot over the top. The scary bits are quite predictable to be honest.But still I Streaminged it with a blanket covering half of my face. Thereare some funny bits as well with the babysitter. Halfway Streaminging youmight be confused. There might be tons of questions in your head. Likefor example, whether the ghost is actually a ghost? What's her story?Who buys a house in the middle of nowhere? (Although every horror moviestarts with the purchase of a house in the middle of nowhere) Why can'tyou just move out if you're feeling depressed being in that house? Whyisn't anyone going to work? But towards the end, some of your questionswill be answered. All in all, this movie has the screams, blood, ghost,haunted house and craziness. Last time I checked, all of those are theessence of a horror movie. If you want to Streaming it, you won't beextremely disappointed. If you don't want to Streaming it, you're notmissing anything.

I was Streaminging this movie late in the night. I was a bit scared. Istrangely felt like the entire movie was shot in New Zealand. Thebabysitter girl was kinda cute. Sad to see her getting killed. Itssurprising to the see construction workers reacting politely to Alex'ssabotage. The movie has got the typical combination of moody weather,lonely place and far-away-from-city lifestyle. Except for the ghostpart, this is the kind of world I wanna live in. Anyway I was expectingmore antagonistic blood thirsty ghost but the film lacked them a bit.Also the film reminded me of another movie 'Uninhabited'. If you like'Dark Circles' you will like that movie also.

Dark Circles is the creation of 'Streaminging the Detectives'Writer/Director Paul Soter, who has moved from Comedy to Horror withoutbreaking a stride. A rather long, six year stride but he's been busywriting stories for other Independent productions. This is an IndieHorror in it's purist form, nothing expensive but with capable actorswho helped bring Soter's story to life. He used the usual bag of tricksthat we expect in a Horror but rarely see in these small budget films,and at times they were effective but when they didn't work, it was asif, due to time constraints, they had to make do with too few takeswhereby having to settle for less than perfect.

We have a married couple, played well by Johnathon Schaech (That ThingThat You Do) and Andrea Frankle (The Host, 21 Jump Street) and theyhave moved to a new home with a newborn who certainly has a good set ofpipes as we hear a great deal of crying from him. Johanna and Alexstart to catch glimpses of things out the corner of there eye, whichgets progressively worse, as does the baby's crying so tempers start tofray which only adds to the sleep deprivation making matters worse.They eventually get a babysitter but have they done the right thing?

I enjoyed all the performances but noticed some patchy quality incertain takes but i'm sure it was down to making the best of whatlittle time the had for the shoot. The direction was mostly good and Ienjoyed his attempts at trying out various styles although some of itfelt dated unlike when PT Anderson does these sorts of thing it looksfresh (Totally unfair comparison but I'm trying to make a point) andoriginal. For example the static camera rig attached to the body thatlooks back at the actor following their movements is rather old now butDirectors need to experiment and that's exactly what this project wasfull of. Tries at different styles.

This movie did work as a simmering Horror with a nice buildup, howeverthings took their time to kick in, with just over thirty minutes beforewe got what we were expecting, so this needs to be Streaminged when in themood, or you might spend half the movie twiddling your thumbs, but ifyou 'are' in the mood then you're in for a treat.
